Boston United suffered a painful 3-2 home defeat to Hornchurch after conceding two goals in the final ten minutes. The loss follows an identical pattern from their previous match and leaves the Pilgrims with two consecutive defeats.
Ken Aboh opened the scoring for Boston United in the 34th minute. The lead was short-lived, however, as a Jake Rooney own goal brought Hornchurch level just before half-time. Sai Sachdev responded immediately for the hosts, restoring Boston's advantage within two minutes according to the match report from PA Media.
The second half saw Hornchurch control more possession and apply sustained pressure. Boston's defence held firm until the 80th minute when Aaron Rowe scored from close range to equalise. Substitute Bobby Kelman then completed the turnaround, scoring a winner with just three minutes of normal time remaining after being set up by Charlie Pegrum.
This result marks the second time in five days that Boston United have lost after conceding late goals when in a winning position. They lost 2-1 at Boreham Wood on August 27th. The club finished 12th in the England National League last season with 59 points from 46 games, scoring 63 goals but conceding 67.
Their recent form over the last five matches is three wins and two losses. After starting the season with three straight wins, they have now lost their last two fixtures.
Manager Craig Elliott made one enforced change to the starting line-up from the defeat at Boreham Wood. Defender Jamie Grimes was absent through injury, with Terrell Agyemang coming into the side. The Pilgrims created several chances in the first half, with Jordan Cursons seeing a volley saved and Tom Powell receiving a yellow card for a tactical foul.
Hornchurch also had opportunities, with Louis Chadwick making a fine save to deny Liam Hearn in the first half. The visitors' victory was their fourth in five games and moves them up to third in the National League table. Check the latest team news on our squad page.
Boston United must now regroup ahead of their next National League fixture. They are scheduled to host Wealdstone at The Jakemans Community Stadium on September 12th. Wealdstone currently sit 15th in the table, providing an opportunity for the Pilgrims to halt their losing run.
The club will be looking to rediscover the form that saw them win their first three matches of the campaign. Fans can plan ahead by viewing all upcoming matches on our fixtures page. The focus now shifts to preparation for the visit of Wealdstone in twelve days' time.
