Boston United boss Paul Hurst will shuffle his pack as they begin their third National League Cup adventure on Tuesday evening with the visit of Birmingham City (7pm). The Pilgrims are part of Group D this season alongside the Blues, Sutton United, Truro City, Woking, Leicester City, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. Hurst looks set to give the likes of Luke Faxon and George Ward their first competitive action of the season tomorrow, saying “I think it is an opportunity to give some players minutes. We have tried to put together a squad that is very competitive and full of quality. But nothing changes from the message. We want to try to win the game and see players stake a claim to get in the team, stay in the team, and be ready for the next game against Altrincham.” United have entertained sides from Leeds United, Sunderland, Newcastle United and Middlesbrough in both seasons to date – plus West Ham United in last season's quarter-final tie. Hurst will check on the fitness of midfielder Nicholas Pozo, who was forced off with a head injury at the end of the first half against Solihull Moors on Saturday. Following Tuesday, Boston host West Brom on Tuesday, 8th September, Southampton on Tuesday, 13th October and Leicester on Tuesday, 3rd November. Should the scoreline remain level after 90 minutes, the match will head to penalties to determine the destination of an extra point. There is a prize pot of £1m that only participating National division clubs benefit from. National League North and South clubs also financially benefit from this prize pot. PL2 clubs do not receive any prize money or participation fee for playing in the National League Cup. The club are only opening the Acorn Taxis (West) Stand for this fixture – with tickets on sale here or contactless payments available on the turnstiles. The shuttle bus service is not running for this fixture. Car park season pass holders can utilise their normal spaces. Boston United currently sit 10th in the National League, with 3 points from 2 games, and are 3 points behind leaders Harrogate Town. They have scored 2 goals and conceded 1 this season. Their next fixture is against FC Halifax Town at home on 16th February 2027.
