Plans for a £25 million NHS Community Diagnostics Centre in Boston have been detailed through newly released drawings. The facility, located on the site of Boston United’s former York Street ground, will provide MRI scans, CT scans, X-rays, ultrasounds, and consultations to residents of south Lincolnshire. The project aims to serve 350 patients daily, easing pressure on nearby Pilgrim Hospital. The development will also create around 40 jobs, with construction including parking facilities for the site.
A planning application submitted to Boston Borough Council outlines design specifics, including building signage and internal LED lighting to create a 'halo effect.' The application seeks advertisement consent for exterior and interior features. United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS, the project’s proponent, has not yet received a decision from the council on the proposal.
The site, previously home to Boston United’s football ground, has been levelled to accommodate the new health hub. The project represents a significant repurposing of the former sports venue, prioritizing healthcare infrastructure over recreational use. The NHS initiative underscores efforts to expand diagnostic services in the region while addressing local healthcare demands.
