Boston United have appointed Allan Ross as their new chief executive officer, subject to final clearance by the Independent Football Regulator. The club confirmed the move this week, bringing back a familiar face to lead its off-field strategy.
Chairman David Newton said the appointment comes at a time of significant growth since the move to the Jakemans Community Stadium five years ago, which was followed by promotion to the National League. "The business has grown massively since the move to the new stadium some five years ago," Newton said.
Ross's return to the club
Allan Ross first joined Boston United as a young player in the academy before moving into a coaching role. He later built extensive business experience in various sectors outside football. His new role will focus solely on the commercial side, including improving the matchday experience and fan engagement, and will not involve player recruitment or other football matters.
"I am honoured to be joining this fabulous football club at this important time," Ross said. He will also work to support community manager Nick Reeson and bring the football club and its Community Foundation closer together.
Awaiting regulatory approval
The appointment cannot be made official until the Independent Football Regulator completes its verification process. Until that approval is concluded, Ross will serve in a purely fact-finding capacity. The club stated it does not anticipate any issues with the vetting and hopes to confirm the appointment as soon as possible.
This administrative step comes as the first team seeks to improve its form. Boston United currently sit 20th in the National League with seven points from seven games, having won two, drawn one and lost four. Their recent run shows no wins in the last five matches, with form reading LLDLL.
Focus on business and community
The club is also searching for a new media officer as part of its operational development. Ross's return is seen as a move to stabilise and grow the club's infrastructure off the pitch, providing a solid foundation for the football side to build upon.
The immediate focus for supporters remains on the pitch, where the team looks to bounce back from a 1-3 home defeat to Wealdstone on Saturday. Allan Ross will begin his fact-finding duties immediately while the regulatory process is finalised.
