Lenell John-Lewis came off the bench to score a vital equaliser and earn Boston United a 2-2 draw away at Tamworth. The Pilgrims fought back twice to avoid a third consecutive defeat in the National League.

Boston United now sit 15th in the National League table with seven points from their opening six matches. Their recent form reads two defeats, a draw, and two wins, leaving them nine points behind the early leaders, Boreham Wood.

Tamworth took the lead in the 23rd minute when Kieren Donnelly looped a close-range header past Boston goalkeeper Louis Chadwick. The hosts doubled their advantage early in the second half, with Morgan Roberts firing home from 18 yards out in the 53rd minute. Boston United had started the game with new signings Kai Mauro and Connor McBride in the lineup for the first time this season.

Manager Ian Culverhouse made a decisive change on the hour mark, introducing Lenell John-Lewis for Ken Aboh. The substitute made an immediate impact, sliding the ball past defender Jordan Cullinane-Liburd and former teammate Rhys Lovett in the Tamworth goal just three minutes after coming on. John-Lewis's goal cancelled out Roberts's strike and leveled the score at 2-2.

Both teams had opportunities to win the game in the closing stages. Boston's Tom Cursons dragged a late chance wide of the target, while Louis Chadwick made an excellent save to deny Tamworth's Dan Creaney. For the hosts, substitute Nathan Tshikuna saw a powerful 20-yard drive fly narrowly wide of Chadwick's post. The match finished with the points shared in front of a crowd of 1,242 at The Lamb Ground.

The point moves Boston United onto seven points for the season, with a balanced record of eight goals scored and eight conceded. It provides a platform to build from after recent setbacks.

Ian Culverhouse will have decisions to make after the positive impact of his substitutes. The full squad list, including unused substitutes like Lewis Shipley and Jack Holmes, is available on our squad page. Boston United's next fixture is at home on Saturday, 19 September.
