Boston United have appointed Paul Hurst as their new manager, almost 15 years after he left the club. Hurst, 51, replaces Graham Coughlan, who was sacked after a five-game winless league run. The new boss has previously managed Ipswich Town and Scunthorpe United, and had two spells with Grimsby and Shrewsbury Town. Boston chairman David Newton said he was delighted to have Hurst back, despite some fans possibly questioning the manner of his exit in 2011. Hurst and his former joint boss Rob Scott guided Boston to promotion to what is now known as National League North. They were second in the division when they stepped down to join Grimsby. Hurst's return to Lincolnshire sees him take the helm of a side that is 17th in the table, four places and three points above the relegation places. He has brought in Chris Doig as his assistant manager, replacing Lee Bullen, who left the club after Coughlan's departure. Newton said this is a key appointment for the club as they seek to not only cement their place in the National League but hopefully build on that going forward. Hurst's second spell in Shropshire ended in November 2024 after nine months. He will be looking to make an immediate impact and turn the club's fortunes around. The club received the right compensation for Hurst's move to Grimsby in 2011, and Newton has drawn a line under the past. Hurst has kept in touch with the club and has brought teams over for pre-season fixtures. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable in the club's quest to avoid relegation.
