Boston United were handed their heaviest defeat of the season, a 6-0 thrashing away to Yeovil Town on Saturday. The result leaves the Pilgrims 20th in the National League with 12 points from 12 games.
The collapse was decisive before half-time. Ryan Jones opened the scoring after 34 minutes with a solo run that beat several defenders before he finished calmly. Brett McGavin, James Daly and Johl Powell then struck in quick succession to make it 4-0 by the break.
"Jones picked up possession and embarked on an excellent solo run, taking on and beating several Boston defenders before cutting across the pitch and calmly slotting the ball into the net to give Yeovil the lead," said Jones.
Second-half substitutes Michael Obeng and Powell, from a penalty, completed the scoring. Boston's Sai Sachdev, Levi Sutton and Connor McBride were all booked in a frustrating afternoon for the visitors, who were backed by 121 travelling supporters at Huish Park.
The club's official site noted "the Pilgrims conceded four times in a decisive 11-minute spell before the break." Manager Craig Elliott made a double change at half-time, bringing on George Holohan and Tyrese Cursons, but the damage was done.
This heavy loss follows a mixed run of form, with one win, two draws and two defeats in their last five matches. Attention now turns to a tough home fixture against third-placed Southend United next Saturday.
