Ken Aboh scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 home victory over Altrincham, giving Boston United three points in the National League. The 21-year-old described the goal as a simple run behind the defence, assisted by a “great ball from Jamie Grimes”. He added that he could have taken the chance to score again but felt the three points were the priority.

Aboh, who impressed on loan at Boston last season, said he had always considered the club his first choice if he didn’t feel comfortable elsewhere. “I always had Boston in my mind and I always let people know around me that if I didn’t feel comfortable with other teams, then Boston was the only team I would go to in the National League,” he said.

The striker is optimistic about the upcoming trip to Boreham Wood. “I don’t see why we can’t go to Boreham Wood and give them an upset - I back myself and I back the lads,” he added ahead of the Thursday match.

Boston United’s manager Paul Hurst praised the team’s back-to-back wins, noting that they had earned six points from the first three games. He said the club’s form had set them up nicely for the challenge at Boreham Wood, a side that has scored three goals in every league match to date and more in cup games. Hurst described Boreham Wood as an attacking threat and an overall excellent team, suggesting they are favourites for the league but that the upcoming game will test Boston’s resolve.

Hurst also reflected on the Altrincham win, saying the opposition had more possession but still showed quality. He highlighted the tactical approach, noting the use of a back-six to break down the opposition and the importance of patience with the ball. He praised Aboh’s finishing and Jamie Grimes’ quick thinking, calling the goal a result of “quick thinking and getting with the game by Grimesy”.

The team will also face Hornchurch on Monday at 3 pm during the Bank Holiday weekend. Hurst said moving the Boreham Wood game to Thursday gives the Pilgrims extra time to prepare for the Monday fixture.

Aboh’s third goal in as many games shows his impact. Hurst said, “Three goals in three games - you can’t get much better than that for his stats.” He added that the team’s recent performances have been “edgy” but that the players have managed to keep the pressure off them.

The Pilgrims look to maintain their momentum and aim to continue their winning streak as they head into the match against Boreham Wood on Thursday, hoping to secure another victory in the National League.
