Boston United secured a vital three points against Kidderminster Harriers at the Jakemans Community Stadium on Saturday, delivering a commanding performance that saw them climb further up the National League North table and intensify their play-off aspirations. The Pilgrims showcased both attacking flair and defensive resolve, much to the fervent approval of the faithful gathered on the terraces.
The gaffer, Craig Elliott, had clearly set his lads up for an aggressive start, and they wasted no time asserting their dominance. From the whistle, Boston dictated play, with the engine room of Shane Byrne and Paul Green controlling possession and distributing wisely. Early pressure led to several chances, culminating in a cracking goal from Jordan Burrow midway through the half, a superb strike from outside the box that left the opposition keeper with no chance. Despite Kidderminster's attempts to get a foothold, our back four, marshalled expertly by Luke Shiels, remained resolute, snuffing out any threats and ensuring Ross Fitzsimons had a relatively quiet first forty-five. The home side went into the break a goal to the good, having played some exhilarating football.
The second half saw Kidderminster Harriers emerge with renewed vigour, pushing hard for an equalizer. However, the Pilgrims demonstrated their mettle, absorbing the pressure and patiently waiting for their moments to counter. Craig Elliott made a shrewd tactical switch around the hour mark, bringing on Jay Rollins to inject fresh pace into the attack, a move that immediately paid dividends. Just ten minutes later, a swift counter-attack saw Rollins burst through the defence, coolly slotting home to double Boston's advantage. This second goal effectively knocked the wind out of the visitors' sails, allowing Boston to manage the game with greater comfort. While Kidderminster did manage a late consolation goal from a set-piece, it was too little, too late to derail Boston's march to victory.
This hard-fought 2-1 victory not only adds three crucial points to our tally but also sends a clear message to the rest of the league: Boston United are serious contenders. The collective effort and unwavering support from the stands were truly inspiring. With crucial fixtures looming, the Pilgrims will carry this momentum forward, aiming to build on this fantastic result as they continue their pursuit of promotion glory. Next up, an away day at Hereford FC, where the lads will be looking to replicate this winning form.
