Boston United manager Paul Hurst will rotate his squad for Tuesday's National League Cup group match against Southampton. The fixture at the Jakemans Community Stadium is a lower priority as the Pilgrims prepare for a key FA Cup first round tie at Scunthorpe United this weekend.
Hurst confirmed his selection plans, citing the need to manage player workload. "I always want to win, but I won't be playing the team I want to play against Scunthorpe," the manager said. "That is because of the effort against Southend on Saturday and a full week's training that we had, so there is the risk of potential injuries."
Players like Ken Aboh, Sai Sachdev, Ben Hammond and Kai Mauro could come into contention after missing the weekend's 1-2 defeat to Southend. The club's recent form has been difficult, with the side sitting 21st in the National League on 12 points.
With both Boston and Southampton already eliminated from the National League Cup after two group defeats each, the match offers a chance for fringe players to impress. A victory would still bring a financial reward for the club. The game will go straight to penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes to decide an extra point.
Supporters can check the team's upcoming schedule, including the trip to 17th-placed Eastleigh on 24 October, on our fixtures page. The team's next fixture is at home to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, 2 November. For this cup tie, only the Acorn Taxis (West) Stand will be open, with tickets available on the turnstiles via contactless payment. The shuttle bus service will not be running, but car park season pass holders can use their normal spaces. Kick-off at the Jakemans Community Stadium is at 7pm.
